Our Vision
In three years, we want Los Angeles to be the shining example of how well-being can improve in communities of color through strategic investments in them – culture can be preserved, jobs can be created, and land and real estate assets can be owned and managed locally. With the investments we will make, community members will not be stuck in debt traps, not be losing their livelihoods, and not be facing multiple intersecting crises of well-being. They will be thriving with healthy businesses, culture, jobs, assets, and resources.
Access to Capital
We’ve expanded access to healthy capital, strengthened microbusinesses and developed the workforce through our integrated capital approach of:
Accessible Loans
Various Grants
Business Coaching
Wraparound Services
Local -> Statewide Policies
Through our expansive policy work, we have created laws, developed advocacy campaigns, and influenced policymakers through our approach to systems change through:
Diverse Coalitions advocacy
Extensive Research
Worker Led Advocacy
Data Implementation
With SB946 legalizing 50,000 street vendor entrepreneurs, SB972 Created pathways into the formal economy for all street vendors in California.
Currently, alongside the Small Business Alliance for Equitable Communities, we are honoring the commitment for ensuring commercial tenant rights by pushing SB1103 into the legislation process which will protect small businesses and nonprofits from displacement through fair and transparent leasing terms for commercial space.
We’ve also developed partnerships with decision makers such as:
15 city council members, county supervisors, senators & congress members to create & advocate for policy
>5 local, state and federal government departments, including LA County CEO and Department of Economic Opportunity, Department of Public Health, US Department of Treasury
Our 2024 Workplan
At the start of 2022, we began auditing our data infrastructure to see what was working and what wasn’t. A year later in early 2023, we convened a cross-team group to develop an Impact Wish List, including the data we would need to assess this impact. Mid 2023, we engaged our learning consultants to integrate impact into their facilitation and encourage a culture shift toward an “impact mindset”. Later that year, we created a master list of Data Functions and Types of Data at IAC.
In 2024, IAC created working groups — a Data & Impact Working Group was institutionalized at the organization. The current makeup of this working group is the Deputy Director, and representatives from the development, operations and access to capital teams.
