Position Overview

Inclusive Action is seeking a Senior Associate of Community Land & Real Estate to lead Inclusive Action’s Real Estate and Land (REAL) portfolio. The position is responsible for the management, visioning, and growth of IAC’s land and real estate portfolio - creating pathways for ownership of land, commercial and residential real estate, and creation of affordable housing for underserved communities and those most at risk of displacement from their neighborhoods.

The Senior Associate, Community Land & Real Estate is passionate about Los Angeles, infinitely curious, self-directed, and interested in producing and coordinating land and real estate projects in service of the communities Inclusive Action is dedicated to. They recognize the urgency of economic justice work and are interested in disrupting the “status quo” approaches to revitalizing neighborhoods.

This position will report to the Director of Community Innovation.


This team member will be responsible for:

Project Management 

  • Managing the land acquisition project known as the LA County Land Bank (LACLB) for the next 2-3 years. This specifically includes: 

    • Developing and maintaining key project management and project related materials   (charters, Asana templates, guides, question logs, templates for note taking, budgets, proposals, pitches, presentations, etc).

    • Coordinating consultants, partner organizations, part-time staff, and project coordinators toward project success

    • Timely communication and task management with partners - including setting and sharing agendas, managing the payment and invoicing process, and anticipating upcoming tasks and actions needed for projects.

  • Managing the Community Owned Real Estate (CORE) Project. This specifically includes:

    • Developing agendas for partner meetings 

    • Updating proformas for key stakeholders review

    • Coordinating with external partners on tenant pipeline and tenant management

    • Coordinating with IAC’s Access to Capital team on lending and business coaching to support tenants. 

    • Coordinating with IAC’s Policy team on commercial tenant advocacy and land/real estate research.

  • Managing multiple projects/workstreams from start to finish on time and within budget

  • Working in cross-functional teams

  • Meeting both internal and external deadlines for coalition and partner work

  • Keeping accurate and updated records and files for all projects

  • Leading on internal project documents in a timely manner 

  • Producing documents and other project collateral of a high quality with attention to detail

  • Adhering to deadlines and the project timeline as closely as possible 

  • Driving projects with minimal oversight

Research & Analysis, and Visioning 

  • Lead primary and secondary research on real estate parcels and land-use policies.

  • Develop memos, briefs and other research products to disseminate to project partners and other stakeholders. 

  • Effectively working with IAC’s clients and community members to create a community-led vision for IAC’s REAL portfolio.

  • Working with other Community Innovation team members, other IAC colleagues, and external stakeholders to implement community ownerships models in IAC’s land and real estate projects 

  • Ability to communicate vision to internal and external stakeholders to create buy-in.

Partnership Cultivation & Management

  • Assisting with building relationships, partnerships and collaborations with other leaders and organizations aligned with Inclusive Action’s mission;

  • Facilitating engagement across community members and with organizational partners, as needed, including compiling meeting agendas, meeting materials, and preparing and sending follow-up documents;

  • Serving as a connector among partner organizations, as well as accurately and responsibly relaying the issues of our communities to elected officials and other government agencies;

  • Representing Inclusive Action in meetings with partners, stakeholders, and the public at large; and,

  • Advising internal leadership and organizational partners on important community politics and information.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. commercial/ residential real estate acquisition and due diligence, managing complex real estate acquisition and development projects, or, affordable housing development, etc);

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;

  • Strong time and project management skills;

  • Detail oriented;

  • Ability to work in hyper-collaborative settings;

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully with impacted residents, team members, and organizational partners;

  • Ability to center the needs of impacted residents in all capacities as advocate and collaborator;

  • Ability to see the big picture while breaking down concepts into more tangible and actionable steps;

  • Spanish and English verbal and written fluency;

  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles area;

  • Positive, upbeat attitude that supports Inclusive Action staff and its organizational partners;

Compensation

Inclusive Action for the City offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range for this position is $85,000-100,000 dependent on experience, along with 100% paid medical (HMO or PPO), dental, and vision benefits, a 401k retirement plan with 3% matching, 18 paid holidays (which includes a week between Christmas and New Year’s Day), sick leave, and up to two weeks of paid vacation a year with an opportunity to accrue more after serving two years with the organization.

Hybrid Work Schedule
Currently the Inclusive Action team is working in person at the office 40% of the time and remotely 60% of the time. The physical office is located in Boyle Heights and is available for necessary in-person appointments as well as its work space. All applicants are expected to live in Los Angeles County.
